george's awards - page 3 of 3

It's not certain exactly when George was presented with the Fire Service Gallantry Medal - it's known that the Police equivalent (the King's Police Medal (KPM)) was instituted on 7 July 1909, and later became the combined King's Police and Fire Services Medal (KPFSM), issued principally in recognition of the heroism shown by Fire Service officers during war time, warranted 6 September 1940, after the Tongham incident of 22, 23 August 1940, but nevertheless before the George Medal was instituted, 24 September 1940.
